How can one overcome godfather syndrome?

My supervisor has a peculiar work method. He always protects his loyal confidants while dismissing those with dissenting views, which is affecting productivity. How can a worker live beyond godfather syndrome? Rachael

Dear Rachael,
Godfathers are a commonly discussed issue at the workplace, especially job seekers who quest to join particular organisations. They are influential. They spot particular people they want to hire or get hired in particular positions for a purpose.
It is understandable that the growing unemployment rate is partly to blame.
The movers would argue that “Why would you care hiring other people yet you have unemployed friends, associates and relatives beforehand?” The math is simple, hire them quietly and then place a job advertisement in a newspaper. After all, no one can question the recruitment process, especially for junior jobs. However, irrespective of how you joined an organisation, it is important that you live to the company’s expectations. Prove yourself right. Bosses change or are changed either through transfers or promotions, and sackings. Therefore, once you are good at your work, you will simply metamorphose in case of a regime change.
It should be noted that godfather syndrome can have serious effects on employee productivity. It can breed counterproductive behaviour where affected individual employees begin to report late for work, work slow and also steal from the company plus using company resources for their personal use. This will subsequently affect effective productivity.
