Check out the absent boss

My dear boss,
Good morning, and I hope you are having a wonderful day. I am writing to inquire whether you are still alive.

You see, of late you have adapted the LDM- Long Distance Management strategy, and this has me worried. However, I have grown used to the sound of your voice issuing rapid instructions on the telephone.

I have also accustomed myself to your emails, devoid as they are of proper grammar.

You would be proud of me, seeing how I am able to wrestle meaning from your jumbled sentences. As I told you when you first interviewed me for this position, I am a fast learner!

We, your underlings, last saw you two months ago. You were dressed in a dark blue trouser suit with a turquoise camisole under the jacket. As always, my dear boss, you were a shining light and a role model, showing us how to dress like a person in power.

When the long work day had come to a close, you jumped into your little machine and roared off, leaving us, the walking workers, marvelling at your vehicle-handling skills. And that was the last time we saw you.

Now that you have a separate entrance for your office, we are never sure if you are around or not. Sometimes the light in your office is on and sometimes it isn’t. The tea-girl has taken to leaving your tray of tea and snacks outside your door.

Sometimes they are consumed, sometimes they aren’t. Are you really there? You see, in a strange way I miss your heavy tread on the stairs, and the sound of your voice calling our names over and over from three steps away.

Here in the office, we have been sharing fond memories of your infamous meetings, during which you would be the main speaker, the complainant and the respondent. Oh those meetings! They were always an excellent opportunity for us to absorb your great wisdom like sponges.

My dear boss, I am writing this letter to plead with you to, once again, grace us with your presence. You are our vision bearer, our Chief Thinker, and the person we all look up to in matters of leadership.
Fondly yours,
Your underlings.
