What you need to know:

REBIRTH. The Easter season like Christmas is one of joy, celebration and merry making. People celebrate Easter for various reasons; religious or otherwise but for Sandra Nakazzi, Easter holds a special place in her life. She told Brian Mutebi why.

My name is Sandra Nakazzi. I‘m 24 years old. I live at Kanyanya, a Kampala suburb. I’m the last born in a family of seven; five boys and two girls. I have a Bachelors degree in Records and Archives Management from Makerere University. I studied at Lubiri High School and Kisubi High School for O- and A- Levels respectively.

Memories of Easter
Easter is a special day in my life. The day I embraced him who died for me, Jesus Christ as my personal Lord and saviour. I still remember that day two years ago, April 8, 2012, quite vividly.

That day, I went to Makerere Full Gospel Church. I was in my final year at university. Pastor Fred Wantaate prayed for all finalists at Makerere University so that we excel in our studies. He then asked all those who wanted to get saved to move forward.

I ignored him. Why would I? I used to go to church on Sunday and whenever I wanted God to do for me something I would pray privately. So why move forward to be prayed for? I wondered.

Getting saved
But as the pastor kept on asking people to accept Jesus as their personal saviour, an inner voice kept telling me to move forward. I felt guilty for not heeding the call.

Eventually I moved forward, confessed and accepted Jesus as my personal saviour. As the pastor prayed for me, I felt like a whole new person in me. May be that is why it is called becoming born again.
After prayers, I was given a membership card and asked to write down my prayer requests. I asked the Lord for my mum and family’s salvation. I wanted them to feel like I did. Also, I asked God for a job at Uganda Law Society (ULS) where I was volunteering at the time. I also asked for success in my final exams.

Turning point
The Lord answered my prayers. I passed my final exams and graduated with a second class degree in January 2013. I’m so thankful to God that many people graduate with good degrees and fail to get jobs, but He blessed me with a good job. Currently, I work for Uganda Telecom in the data section.
I continued praying for my mum’s salvation and she got saved in 2013. We now both live a life of joy and peace in the Lord. Ever since that day, (April 8) I have lived a changed life; everything about me has changed for the good. I have a personal relationship with God, I hope for a bright future.

Thereafter
Every decision comes with a price. After accepting Christ, I lost some of my friends. However, the Lord gave me new wonderful friends that have supported me spiritually.

I’m so grateful that the Lord has taken good care of my family and I. He has protected us and provided us with every thing we need. To me, Easter is not any other day. It holds a special place in my life. I urge those who have not accepted Jesus as their personal saviour to do so.
