Crazy fast chicken

What you need to know:

Craze in town. Crazy Chicken has potential to beat other joints if they maximise their resources.

I understand Bon Apetit has closed one of its branches along Jinja Road which is not that surprising considering that there was another branch situated within a 10-minute walk, the end result being unwarranted competition.
Ugandans have an amazing love affair with chicken and it a sure bet that no occasion of food would be complete without that much loved staple. Anyone who opens a fast food joint must have chicken as the main featured item, without which it would be recipe for disaster and the venture would be destined for failure within a relatively short period of time.

What do they have?
Crazy Chicken is a relatively new entrant in the crowded fast food arena though they have managed to open three branches , with Kansanga being the latest. As might be expected their main stock in trade is chicken other than the standard fried chicken that is so commonplace. To this end they have come up with pan fried chicken and grilled chicken as well as chicken Kiev. I’m skeptical whether their chicken Kiev is made from chicken breast which cost a fortune and then again this is not the type of dish that one finds on a takeaway menu.

The Chicken Kiev?
An authentic chicken Kiev would comprise rolled breast of chicken sautéed in butter that has been lightly doused with chopped chives, tarragon, garlic, salt and pepper, etc and never served as a sandwich!
I think Crazy Chicken would have gained greater mileage by creating a more assorted menu of chicken items such as chicken paprika, chicken Tahiti (with fruit) and maybe a curried chicken and a Chinese stirfried chicken. To be fair, they do have liver and chips and beef magnum sandwich.

Verdict
In conclusion, Crazy Chicken is just another chicken joint that has the potential to be better than average. The locations that they have so far chosen are strategic, and given their flair for branding, they stand out in the crowd. Despite the fact that they have competition from similar joints that operate within the same turf, their branding and signage is head and shoulders from the rest of the pack.
