I pay attention to my looks and style - Tazibone

What you need to know:

  • MY STYLE. Solomon Tazibone, is a stylist and host of NTV Style Project, a lifestyle show that airs every Friday. He spoke to Esther Oluka about his love for fashion, personal style and why he minds his look.

As the host of the NTV Style Project, do you have someone who provides your outfits for the show?
In the past, I collaborated with a number of designers and stylists. I wore outfits from Abryanz collection, Catalogue Uganda, and Kai’s Divo Collection. Lately, I mostly do it myself. This was after realising that since I was also working as a stylist, I needed to showcase what I could do. I started wearing more of my own outfits.

What do you love wearing when you are not in front of the cameras?
I love dressing casually; jeans, T-shirts and sneakers. This style suits me because I am always on the move. I prioritise comfort, functionality and outfits with pockets. Away from outfits, I also carry rucksacks because of my frequent movements.

Which men’s fashion trend does not make sense to you?
Lately, I realised there is a lot of sparkle, sequins and shimmer on some men’s outfits for instance on bomber jackets. I feel it is just a little bit over the top and unnecessary. Sparkle on a man is a little weird.

Are you mindful of your looks and style?
Yes, I am.

Has this always been part of you?
Growing up, my mother always made sure I was neat. She ensured that my clothes were always clean, my hair well-kempt, my skin was moisturised and, that I smelt nice. Eventually, this became part of me in adulthood.

Do you get criticised for being too attentive to your looks?
Yes, there are people who do not get it. As someone who works in the fashion industry, there are occasions when I try out new trends, and people do not understand them. They laugh or make fun of me. But it is all right, I never mind them.

Let’s talk about shoes. How many pairs do you own?
I have between 55 to 58 pairs. I have a mixture of boots, sneakers, slippers, among other types.

What is the most expensive pair you own?
The shoes I wore to the Abryanz Style and Fashion Awards (ASFAs) in 2016. These shoes were snake-skin slip-ins which cost me about Shs400,000, which I presumed was a high price since I do not like spending much money on either outfits or shoes.
