Last Saturday, in his first visit to Africa, internationally revered yogi, mystic and visionary humanitarian, Sadhguru staged the first of his series dubbed, In conversation with the mystic at Speke Resort Munyonyo.

It was a large audience of more than 1,000 people, including Ugandans, Asians and European expatriates, all of whom assert that they walked away with some added value.

Cause of our problems explained
Sanjay Tanna, politician and businessman, says it was a wonderful event and a blessing for Uganda to host the revered Sadhguru given that it was his first time in Africa. “I may not have gone with particular questions I was seeking answers to but I knew there was something to learn from him and indeed there was.”

“Among the so many lessons, there was something he said about our problems being majorly a result of our own pre-conceptions and expectations, which is true. Many times, we pick on people and actually develop grudges and rifts with them just because we ourselves expected these people to act in a particular manner and yet they do not. So maybe we should not harbour all these pre-conceptions about people.”
“He also shared something on peace. His message pointed to the fact that we can only attain peace with one another if first we are at peace with our own selves.

And if everyone is at peace with himself, it is this same peaceful energy they will project out and at the end of the day, the whole world is a peaceful place. Generally, it was a remarkable and fulfilling experience for me,” he adds.

His witty personality
“I got the opportunity of asking the mystic a couple of questions. I demanded him to explain what this animal called yoga really is because recently I have been trying to understand yoga and I even have some books on it,” says Andrew Mwenda, political analyst. Did he get the answers to his questions?

“Unfortunately, I felt that the answer he gave me did not live up to my expectations. Other than that, it was a great experience. I really liked his witty character and the original thinking. Many of us are usually drawn to common ideas,” Mwenda explains. He believes the mystic’s ideas however are not rare so he allows you to think outside the box.

There were many more lessons from him about the environment and society in general and we walked away with some added value.

Quick notes
