What you need to know:

WOW. At My Makka Restaurant, the small but well-laid out space gives you room to enjoy their delicacies.

It is now coming to three years since this inauspicious eating joint made its debut and against all odds they are surviving.
Located on Martin Road in Old Kampala, the area has gradually become more upmarket with a number of storeyed buildings that dot the skyline.
Many years ago, and before the expulsion of the Asians, it was a favourite place for non-Europeans and not surprisingly one still comes across such Indian names as Delhi Gardens.
Regardless, despite the growing population, when it comes to (decent) dining out in the area not one is hard pressed to come up with places with merit and decorum with the exception of Café Javas on Namirembe road.

Class and menu
However, my Makka by no means falls in that category they being in the much higher bracket and a vastly different menu offering.
My Makka is a notch or two higher than the ladies who walk around with food being more the mobile kitchen model. The menu at My Makka is good and decent local food. You are bound to find beef or chicken stew fried beans and fresh peas as well ground nut sauce etc. Suffice it to say that what they strive for here is true Ugandan cuisine in every sense of the word and this is their specialty and what they do best. No burgers or hot dogs and they seem to be on the right path.

Musical ambience
A couple of years ago, they featured a guitarist by the name of Herbert Ssensamba who strummed his guitar now and again though what became of him I wonder. Offhand I reckon his type of music was not what would appeal to the crowd. Now were they in the market for Mex Tex or Continental (remember Lotus Mexicana) it would have drawn a different crowd altogether.

Our experience
We ordered beef and chicken stew accompanied with matooke and other local staples and they were served within reasonable time and we were happy with the food. The portions were fair while the taste was good and the service relatively par for the course. They also offer an array of snacks viz. samosas, kebabs, fried gonja
They are now entering their third year of being in service and they seem to be in business for the long haul. Without much competition in the neighborhood I do not believe that this is such a tall order.
