For a journey from Uganda through Dubai to Mauritius, one had to brave about 10 hours until the touch down at Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport, the main international airport in Mauritius. This is 48km southeast of the capital city of Port Louis.

After clearing, we were allocated air-conditioned vans with colleagues from West Africa to take us for 45 minutes through the tarred winding narrow roads with several traffic lights to Outrigger Resort Spa Hotel.

Sights of sugarcane plantations dominated the scenery. Our guide, volunteered some information. “Mauritius owes its origin to volcanic activity. Now, the volcanoes are long dormant.

Much as our economy depended on sugarcane growing, we are now into real estate and luxury scheme because it is a tourist destination.” At this point most people’s heads tilted with sleep.

At the hotel
The concierge handed us flutes with cocktails and juice that stood on ice cubes. “Bonjour and welcome,” they chorused.

Each of us received their room keys and simcards while different people led us to the luxurious suites.

Everyone seemed to look forward to their beds.
Meanwhile, everyone who attended the Multichoice Content Showcase had been served with an itinerary which stipulated; activities against dress code respectively.

After the siestas, it was time to meet and greet. Dresscode: cocktail. We strutted the red carpet where the numerous paparazzi clicked themselves away.

More alcoholic and non-alcoholic cocktails on the rocks dominated the starter menu as selfies with West African movie and music stars too stole the show. It felt like a high profile mini-concert for only VVIPs in Kampala.

After introducing the Multichoice Africa dignitaries, the rest fell in place as many performers gave their electric dance moves.

Activities galore
The event we had gone for involved numerous press conferences for DStv and Gotv platforms giving an in-depth insight into their content. We took part in Sony’s Amazing Race.

Installing an app on each one’s smart phone and following instructions in our different teams. We raced around the hotel premises and we each got a cap and a bag.

On the eve of our departure, Lifetime TV channel gave us a wedding challenge. A couple in form of mannequins were presented to be dressed for a beach wedding.

My group won after adding a fedora and bow tie on the man an while red lipstick and golden tassel top for a dress plus a cake table decorated.

This tested the different wedding creative hands. At the end, the winning group won powerbanks and Whitney Houston movie CD.

To celebrate we jumped vigorously and I ended up landing on my left knee which got severe bruises and I was rushed to Fortis Clinique Darne Hospital for treatment that cost good amount of dollars to crown my trip.

If only I had travel insurance, maybe the story would have gone on. Having gazed at the stars and relished the intercontinental cuisine, Mauritius is a haven for one thinking vacation.
