Who we spotted at VIGA Awards

What you need to know:

FASHION MOMENT. Forget about the shimmery oversize jackets and trousers that most gospel artistes don for their music videos and church services. At the just concluded Victoria Gospel Academy Awards, we spotted the stylish and those we feel tried hard, writes Justine J. Rukundo.

Indeed gospel artistes did shine at VIGA Awards. The black suits, grey ones and those that broke away from the tradition just nailed it. And we are glad to present those whose dress code caught our attention and what we thin k about it. This serves that next time, other artistes can borrow a leaf or two.

Suspenders
A pair of suspenders only gets classy and saves one the burden of belts. It’s rare to see a well-dressed man without a belt these days. Well-fitted suspenders eliminate the bunching of fabric that occurs when anything but a very tightly-fitted waistband is cinched with a belt, and allows the fabric around the hips and knees to fall in a smooth plane rather than ballooning out from under the belt.

Platform loafers
Right: He turned his evening wear into more comfortable platform slip-on loafers. His experiment with the pair of white sole accessories, teamed with dress trousers, a pleated shirt and bowtie looked perfectly appropriate. He did not have to add on a blazer or wear multiple pieces together.

Hint from Africa
Left: The maroon ensemble would have looked drab had this gent not gotten a bit more creative with pieces of African print on the shirt pocket and chest. This was subtle enough for the evening at a gospel awards show. However, the trousers’ pockets should have been saved the bulge.

Bright grey
Who says grey is sombre? A light grey suit looks more casual and does not belong to conservative environments. This man pulled off the black and white bowtie with a white shirt with black highlights that left the onlookers nodding.
