Kampala- Uganda Christian University (UCU) Mukono will be without some of their big names when they attempt to defend the Inter-University Games women’s basketball title. UCU Lady Canons on Wednesday defeated KCCA Leopards to win the national league title at Lugogo.

But not all the girls that clinched the national title are eligible to feature for UCU in the games which the university is hosting for the second time.

Loraine Akinyi and Brenda Mbonye, both lecturers at UCU and still pursuing MBA courses, won’t participate as well as Frances Nabulobi, an accountant at the institution. Guard Evelyn Adhiambo, Sandra Munduru and Angela Namirimu (graduated) will also miss the games. But with Peace Proscovia, Maureen Amoding and Purity Odihiambo UCU believe they can fight for the title. The absentees will give KIU, beaten finalists at the last edition, hope of snatching the title.

Participating teams report tomorrow and action starts on Monday. Ndejje are the overall reigning champions.
