K.K, Mukasa want to disprove critics at Singleton Challenge

KAMPALA.

There is still a wide perception that Kiryowa ‘K.K’ Kiwanuka and Elly ‘Sober’ Mukasa are the only lucky pair left in the quest for glory at the Entebbe Singleton Match play Challenge.

Even after the amiable duo defeated Ray Kahigi and Ibrah Bagalana 4/2 (four-up with two holes to go) at the quarterfinal stage of this four-ball better-ball Championship on April 8, their rollercoaster defined by walkovers in the three rounds still stands out.

K.K and Mukasa now want to silence doubters once again when they face the deadly but silent pair of Dan Kajungu & Collins Nuwagira at the semifinals of the exciting clubhouse competition at the par-71 course today. “We shall show them,” Kiwanuka warned to their critics in a recent chat with SCORE.
That’s the mentality the pair has carried whenever they have been pushed to the wall by words of the Doubting Thomases.

Winning run
“Even this last weekend, we won our match in Kampala,” the former Uganda Golf Union President said while recalling their win (1-up) over Yunus Bbale and Phillip Sebaale at the Entebbe-Kitante Inter Club Championship.

“We have not done any training (this week) but we are good. Our opponents are good but we will beat them.” added the handicap 16 player Kiwanuka.

Lest Kiwanuka and Mukasa forget, it is Nuwagira and Kajungu who ended Moses Ssebugwawo and Emmanuel Mugabi’s road, winning 4/2 - the joint-best score at the last eight stage.

Kenyan pair Isaac Mariera and John Muchiri, who ended Allan Muhereza and Moses Matsiko’s run with a 3/2 win face Anthony Agaba and Jadu Patel in the second semifinal.

The winning pairs will play the final the overall on May 27 with the victors there set to get an all-expenses paid trip to watch The Open at the Royal Birkdale in Southport, England come July.
