KCCA, SC Villa in action on busy day in soccer league

Regardless of whether they drop points this evening, reigning champions KCCA will end the first round on top of the log as the Azam Uganda Premier League goes into the two –month, mid-season lull.

Record 16-time league champions SC Villa can however still make it an uncomfortable two months’ break for the leaders should they as expected, defeat bottom side JMC Hippos in one of the five other fixtures of the day. Villa who are currently second on 28 points could move within a point of KCCA if they win and the latter lose at URA.

Villa’s opponents JMC are one of two teams not to have won a game, the other being Kirinya Jinja SSS.

For KCCA who drew 1-all away to Sadolin, the trip to Lugazi against sixth-placed URA appears to be a tougher fixture for the yellow boys.

While URA has only won thrice in 14 games, the Kefa Kisala coached side has suffered defeat once thus far and had defender Jimmy Kulaba to thank for salvaging a 2-2 draw with Villa on Tuesday. They are currently 11 points behind today’s opponents but edged their previous two league home games between the two sides 3-2. KCCA could have Muzamir Mutyaba back after the attacking midfielder missed Wednesday’s 1-all draw with Sadolin.

If fielded, coach Mike Mutebi’s back three of, Timothy Awany Hakim Senkumba and Denis Okot will be under intense scrutiny.

The trio, particularly Okot struggled against Sadolin’s attack and could be in for a long evening against the Bokota Labama and Shafik Kagimu led URA attack.

While they have not kept a clean sheet in four games, the champions have reliable goal scorers in league leading marksman Geoffrey Sserunkuma and Derrick Nsibambi.

The partnership yielded its 13th goal of against Sadolin with the latter accounting for nine of those.
