Lesotho must fall

What you need to know:

  • Soccer. The Uganda Cranes find themselves two matches into the 2019 Nations Cup qualifiers without a home win but are determined to erase that little matter this afternoon.

The home drive was supposed to begin when Tanzania’s Taifa Stars came town last month.
But the southern neighbours had other ideas, sniffling out any attempts by the Uganda Cranes to hold a parade on them.
Actually, the Tanzanians were even about to steal it all when star Mbwana Samatta escaped through only for Cranes skipper Denis Onyango to stop him.
Such defiance at the back and renewed drive from the middle to attack is what Cranes coach Sebastien Desabre will demand from his boys as the Frenchan continues search for his first competitive victory.
“We are aware of what is at stake and we are not taking Lesotho lightly,” said Cranes midfielder Sadam Juma.
“We have watched a few of their videos and we have an idea of how they play.
“We shall try to limit their capabilities and work on our strength. Everyone in camp is positive and we know what is expected of us.”

Driving statistic
The Cranes have not failed to win two games at home in the last four Afcon editions, a statistic that should drive them on this afternoon.
With Desabre’s men drawing goalless his first competitive game at home with Tanzania, this one against Lesotho has somewhat seen its stakes raise. They welcome the top scorers (with two goals) in Group L, but the table leaders - Uganda - will count on the home crowd to get their home campaign off the mark in earnest.
