Manchester clubs hard to stop

Man City 2 C. Palace 0

Roy Hodgson’s troubled Eagles belatedly scored their first goal this season in an English Football League Cup 1-0 win over Huddersfield Town on Tuesday night. The Londoners need to be on top of their wits if they are to stop a Manchester City side gathering a good head of steam. Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus have hit peak form thus rendering this a home banker.

Southampton 0 Man United 1

Mauricio Pellegrini’s Saints are one of a few teams that best thrive away from home because they play a counter attacking game. Gabonese record signing Mario Lemima will have his hands full, stifling Henrik Mkhtaryan’s creativity. I fancy Jose Mourinho’s joint leaders - Manchester Utd to nick a tight affair.

Arsenal 2 West Brom 1

Gunners fans and boss Arsene Wenger took delight in a spirited display at Stamford Bridge where they held champions Chelsea to a goalless stalemate. A repeat performance at home to Tony Pulis’ battlers should yield a much needed three points. I am tipping Alexis Sanchez to settle this match.

Everton 1 Bournemouth 0

Ronald Koeman is visibly frustrated by the Toffees indifferent start that has seen them drop into the relegation zone. However, the Dutchman can point to a cruel fixture list that has seen him play four ‘Top Six’ sides. I fully expect his expensively assembled side to take care of a Bournemouth side still finding its bearings.

Leicester City 1 Liverpool 1

Craig Shakespeare is hoping for a repeat result, having seen his Foxes outduel Liverpool in Tuesday’s EFL Cup tie. Liverpool’s big guns Mo Salah and Roberto Firmino return to bolster their attack. But I fancy the 2016 title winners to match anything Liverpool throw at them. Goals filled draw, here!

Burnley 2 Huddersfiled 1

Burnley are morphing into a really very good away outfit, having already taken points off Chelsea, Spurs and Liverpool on their travels. In a game in which they possess the organisation and home advantage, I can see them thriving. Huddersfield will huff and puff to little effect. Home win!

Brighton & Hove 1 Newcastle Utd 1

A run of three successive victories has Magpies fans dreaming of football nirvana. Their good run has been built on the back of inspired leadership of skipper Jamaal Lascelles, who is making a habit of scoring crucial winners. A draw portends between these two English Premier League topflight rivals that know each other well.

Swansea 1 Watford 0

I was truly surprised by Watford’s 0-6 capitulation to Manchester City. The Hornets have started this season playing with good organisation and fervour. Swansea come into this game on the back of an inspired defensive display at Tottenham Hotspur’s White Hart Lane. Goals will definitely be at a premium in South Wales.

West Ham 1 Tottenham 1

For sheer thrills and spills, this could turn out to be the pick of this weekend’s England Premier League fixtures. Slaven Bilic’s Hammers have been playing with an intensity unknowable to them during the first four weeks. Tottenham Hotspur start as slight favourites but they must vary their game if they are to emerge tops from this London derby.

Stoke City 1 Chelsea 2

Champions Chelsea know they have their work cut out at the Bet365 Stadium where Stoke City like to give visiting sides ‘hell’. How well Chelsea cope in midfield and defence where mainstay David Luiz is suspended, will determine the outcome. A fun filled, narrow away victory portends for Antonio Conte’s Blues although they will be away from Stamford Bridge.
