Mitsubishi favourite in Mountains of the Moon

KAMPALA.

The opening three rounds of the National Rally Championship (NRC) have all been won by three different drivers; Omar Mayanja/ Hussein Mukuye in Mbarara, Duncan ‘Kikankane’ Mubiru in Kabale and Ronald Ssebuguzi/ Leon Ssenyange in Kayunga.

However, they all have one thing in common,- the three drivers triumphed in Mitsubishi Evo X ‘Kisodde’.

And as the Mountains of Moon Rally gets under way today in Fort Portal, all eyes will be on the 14 of 44 drivers in the Mitsubishi (Evo X Evo 9, Evo 8, Evo7) .

Ssebuguzi wants to maintain his lead on top of the NRC standings and a second-placed finish will help that cause and lead him to a fourth national title to equal his idol Charlie Lubega.

“Second position finish will be good for me to stay top of the standings and make an assault on the Pearl Rally which has never been a good event for me,” Ssebuguzi told SCORE last week.

George Ssemakula, Kikankane’s co-driver also said they are only targeting victory.

“After surrendering the NRC lead following our failure to finish in Kayunga rally our objective is to win this weekend,” he said.

Ambrose Byona/ Derrick Lubambula, Musa Kabage/Roger Ssirwomu and Yusuf Bukenya/Frank Sserugo lead the Evo IX challenge and will be out to win their maiden event this season.
The two-day event starts with a 4.2km Super Special Stage (SSS) at the Boma ground today.
