Must win for Villa

What you need to know:

  • Soccer. The last time KCCA played SC Villa in Masaka in 1994, George Nsimbe scored the solitary goal that earned the Kasasiro Boys a 1-0 win.
  • Today, SC Villa must win to keep their title hopes alive. A win for KCCA will all but seal the title.

KAMPALA.

League leaders KCCA are out to finish off second-placed Villa’s faint title hopes this afternoon at Masaka Recreation Ground in a blockbuster tie.
It doesn’t get more tense than one rival having to surrender the league crown to another at their own back yard.
“We have prepared ourselves like it is the final. We must make the home advantage count and remember we have not lost a game in Masaka,” Villa head coach Wasswa Bbosa told SCORE. He says the slip-ups against Express and Jinja SSS recently were down to lack of team concentration and missing key players due to injuries. “If we have striker Emmanuel Okwi and Godfrey Lwesibawa back in shape for this game then KCCA have no chance,” warned Bbosa.

Fixture pile-up
KCCA manager Mike Mutebi, knowing the fierce fixture pile that awaits his club this month, would want to end the league contest once and for all and reserve the energies for other engagements.
“We have enough in our armour to go through the many matches we have and we will play to win,” said Mutebi. The fact that the Lugogo side is still competing on three fronts - Caf Confederation Cup, league and Uganda Cup - has taken its toll on KCCA’s league performance as evidenced in the 2-2 against URA on Tuesday.
Tied on 47 points apiece albeit with Villa having played three games more, the epic match might be decided by the finer details like striking prowess of Villa’s Okwi and KCCA’s Geoffrey Sserunkuuma or the much anticipated midfield battle between KCCA’s Muzamir Mutyaba, Allan Okello and Isaac Kirabira that will test its mettle against Jogoos’ Taddewo Lwanga, Abel Eturude and Ambrose Kirya.
