Namusoke counts of Swans’ momentum ahead of dugout debut

KAMPALA. New Kampala Hockey Club (KHC) Swans coach Sandra Namusoke, has warned her players ‘Weatherhead will be vicious’ when the two sides lock horns in the women’s National Hockey League (NHL) this afternoon in Lugogo.

Namusoke, also a forward in the Swans’ side that lies fourth with 10 points trailing Weatherhead on goal difference and leaders Wananchi by 14, was appointed when results took a turn for the worse under Faustine Ojangole’s reign.

However, Swans struggles started when nearly half of the squad broke away at the start of the season to form Rhinos.

Weatherhead, on the other hand, are also finding it hard to cope since Siddy Alum left for Asia in July and without a consistent coaching figure in the dugout, things could get worse before they get better after managing only one of 12 available points in the second round.

“We are on a high after beating Weatherhead in our last match,” Namusokesaid, although her side have had a three week’s rest since that 3-1 win on August 27.

“What we need is to re-sharpen our focus because Weatherhead will want to bounce back,” she added.

KHC have only pride to salvage in a league where they have conceded 25 goals in eight games – the same total they conceded over 16 games last year – but the general weakness of the two sides has made for an underwhelming league campaign in the ladies’ category.

Ojangole, however, insists that if “KHC players turn for up for games, they can be competitors.” There was a reflection of that when they beat Weatherhead 3-1, with only captain Judith Mirembe, as a notable absentee.

Mirembe returns this weekend and her pace and creativity should be the worry for Weatherhead.
