Onyango wary of Wydad’s home feats

KAMPALA. Mamelodi Sundowns have already dug deep in their bid to become the fourth team to retain the Caf Champions League.
On the advice of coach Pitso Mosimane, the South African giants paid for a two-week stay in North Africa hoping that they would ace the quarterfinal tie. Sundowns hold a 1-0 lead heading into today’s return leg with Morocco’s Wydad Casablanca, last year’s losing semifinalists to Egypt’s Zamalek.
Should Sundowns advance, Mosimane believes they will face Algeria’s USM Alger in the semifinals next weekend with the first leg of set for Algiers. With their billionaire owner, Patrice Motsepe, worth US$1.8bn, the cost of staying in North Africa is chicken feed but the task remains enormous.
Goalkeeper Denis Onyango warned his teammates on what awaits them after they arrived in Casablanca on Monday, five days before the game. “Wydad Casablanca are a very good team,”said Onyango, who is Uganda’s captain.
“We watched them last year when they played Zamalek (in the Caf Champions League semifinals), losing the first leg 4-0 before winning at home 5-2. We need to dig a little deeper to get a result.”
