KAMPALA.

The battle lines have been drawn. Vipers must with today’s home tie to stand a chance of progressing to the next round of the Caf Confederations Cup.

“Expect us to go all out to attack with two strikers,” Vipers deputy coach Edward Golola told SCORE after Thursday’s workout session. “We will employ our transitional 4-3-3 system as we seek victory.”

In the 2-0 win over Lweza on Tuesday, Vipers opted for the attacking trident of Milton Kaliisa, Tony Odur and Erisa Ssekisambu which may not be changed.

In Mike Sserumaga’s absence – through injury – new signing Moses Waiswa will most likely join Deus Bukenya and Kezironi Kizito in the midfield diamond while Dan Birikwalira, Halid Lwaliwa, Shafiq Bakaki and skipper Nicholas Wadada complete the backline. Ismail Watenga remains the undisputed number one between the sticks.

“We have gathered information about Moroni being a passing side but we are ready to combat that. “With many national team players in our team, I believe we have the experience to take on the best,” Golola explained. Vipers’ maiden outing on the continent last year ended in a 2-1 goal aggregate ejection at the hands of Nigerian giants Enyimba. But Moroni are also largely novices in Caf competitions.

Moroni head coach Soumeith Ben Ahmed Ali admitted he knew nothing about Vipers but will play with respect.
“We have come here to launch our mission of going into the second round and we have the players to give us the victory,” he said.

Vipers must keenly watch Moroni’s Andrianomenjanaharyangelot Aristide, Adjilane Said, Ibrahim Toihir, Noah Stephane, Anyl Said, Chamssoudine and Ahamada Abdalla.

The winner between Vipers and Moroni will face either Platinum Stars (South Africa) or União Desportiva do Songo of Mozambique before making it to the lucrative group stage.
