Student leaders from all public universities are demanding to meet President Yoweri Museveni and discuss the closure of Makerere University and other challenges affecting public universities across the country.

Addressing journalists in Kampala, the chairperson of Public Universities Student Leader's forum also guild president for Gulu University, Robert Mukembo, said president Museveni's decision to have Makerere closed was made in haste arguing that the closure has affected other public universities as well.

He notes that some programs at Gulu University are done in partnership with Makerere, MUBs and other universities and therefore its closure negatively impacts university education, urging the president to pay closer attention to issues raised by students.
