More females graduate at Kyambogo

More than 7,000 students are expected to graduate during the three-day graduation ceremony which kicked off yesterday at Kyambogo University.
Addressing the congregation at the 13th graduation ceremony at the University, The acting Vice Chancellor Prof Elly Katunguka said 7,157 students will graduate up to Friday and of these, 3,590 are female and 3,567 are male, with 294 have first class honours.

Students from Kyambogo University graduate school, school of management and entrepreneurship and the faculty of special needs and rehabilitation graduated in the first session of the ceremony yesterday seeing more than 1,000 graduates walking away with their transcript immediately after the ceremony.
This is the first time the institution’s management issued transcripts to its graduates on graduation day.

Mr Katugunka said the university staff was able to complete marking in time and, using modern technology in result management, they were able to have the transcripts ready.
”We have enhanced ICT capacity and it has enabled the university to process students’ results very quickly through the results management system and this has made us to process their transcripts quickly,”Mr Katugunka said.
He added that the university has registered an increase in the number of students from 13,000 in the academic year 2014/ 2015 to 15,215, a trend Prof Katunguka attributes to a peaceful academic atmosphere.

Meanwhile, the First Lady, who doubles as the minister for Education, Ms Janet Museveni, who was the guest of honour commended the University for promoting peace and harmony which enabled students to be taught and graduate on time.
She also appealed to the university administration to put up systems to ensure that the teachers the university produces and the colleges affiliated to it possess the right skills to pass on to the young people.
She advised students not to give space to things which will distract them from achieving their goals but rather use the skills and knowledge the university has equipped them with to develop their communities and the country at large.
She urged parents to serve as a good example to their children since the President declared the year of 2017 as the year of family.

“In order to continue setting good examples for your children, please try to ensure that you work and maintain good health, establish zero tolerance to gender-based violence and conserve the environment to be able to work on the social transformation of the family and the development of the country,” Ms Kataha said.
