Education minister to release PLE results today

Kampala. Education and Sports minister Janet Museveni will today release last year’s Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) results.
The Uganda National Examinations Board (Uneb) briefed Ms Museveni on Tuesday afternoon on the pupils’ performance at State House Nakasero. This will be the first PLE results Ms Museveni releases since being appointed the political head of the ministry last year.

It will also be Mr Daniel Odongo’s first time to oversee the national examinations as Uneb executive secretary after he took over from Mr Mathew Bukenya in April, 2016.
Mr Patrick Muinda, the Education and Sports ministry spokesperson, yesterday confirmed the results will be released today from the Office of the Prime Minister in Kampala at 11am.
“Uneb briefed the minister yesterday on the PLE results. The Minister of Education will release them tomorrow (today),” Mr Muinda said,
A total of 640,860 candidates registered for the Uneb exams last November with 488,323 of the pupils enrolled on the government’s universal primary education (UPE) scheme.

On technology
Mr Odongo previously told Daily Monitor that in some cases, they used technology-aided tools to record the students marks in last year’s exams. He said they developed an e-mark where students’ results are recorded on computers unlike in the past where they would be put on optical mark reader forms that would then be scanned.

Uneb has also completed marking Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) exams and the results are expected out any time after the PLE results. Also, the marking of the Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) exams started on January 2.
Sources who attended the State House briefing but declined to be named indicate that there was an improvement in last year’s PLE results compared to the previous year.
Schools officially open on February 6 for first term.
