Minister lauds Uganda Martyrs University for quality education

KAMPALA. The government of Uganda has commended Uganda Martyrs University, Nkozi for the quality education provided to national students and others abroad.
While presiding over a function of laying a foundation stone for a Silver Jubilee Complex at the University's Rubaga Campus, the Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation Dr. Elioda Tumwesigye who represented the First Lady and also Minister of Education and Sports, Ms Janet Kataaha Museveni said that UMU is one the private universities in the country that supports the government to boost education standards.

"We acknowledge your efforts to promote education sector and we ask you to continue moving with us by supporting all our progress to transform this nation," he said.
The function also included the launching of silver jubilations of Uganda Martyrs University (UMU), Nkozi under a theme; “Celebrating 25 years of Excellence in the Footsteps of the Uganda Martyrs.”
The Complex will have four phases and it is likely to cost over two billion shillings for the first phase.
According to Professor John Chrysostom Maviiri, UMU Vice Chancellor, the launch marked the beginning of various events that will be held throughout the period leading to the climax in October next year.

“We shall have events like marathon, fundraising dinners, general cleaning in various towns, giving out relief items to the needy, planting trees and helping out Martyrs Day pilgrims at Namugongo,” he said.
Prof. Maviiri thanked the Archbishop of Kampala, Dr. Cyprian Kizito Lwanga for offering land to host the university campus at Rubaga and he appealed to government that the university needs more support in promoting forensic studies as a way of curbing the rising crime rate in the country.
