KAMPALA. The police have summoned three more Makerere University staff for interrogation over alleged involvement in altering students exams marks.
Mr Emilian Kayima, the Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson, yesterday identified the trio as Ms Joyce Namusoke, the registrar of the College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences, Ms Janet Mbabazi and Ruth Etao, both Information Technology [IT] specialists.

“The police have further summoned more staff in our investigations as far as the mess of marks altering at Makerere [University] is concerned,” Mr Kayima said, adding that more lecturers and staff members would be summoned and quizzed over the malpractice.
Saturday Monitor has learnt that the fiddling with some of the exams results were traceable to Ms Musoke’s computer, prompting the police to include her on their list of the staff lined up for interrogation.
The three join Mr Mike Barango, the ICT specialist, who was on Tuesday arrested alongside his colleague, Mr Christopher Ntwatwa, the university’s Result Management System administrator.

Both Mr Barango and Mr Ntwatwa work in the Academic Registrar’s office. But sources who preferred not to be named, fearing to be reprimand, said yesterday that Mr Barongo was released on bond on Thursday, while his colleague is still in police custody. The duo have been kept in police custody beyond the constitutionally allowed 48-hour limit before one is produced in court.
Mr Kayima could not confirm the release of Mr Barongo, arguing he did not have all the information by press time.
The Makerere University Appointments Board chairperson, Mr Bruce Balaba, said his board had agreed to suspend any staff that will be implicated in the marks alteration scam until the investigations are complete.
The Office of the Academic Registrar last month withdrew 58 names from the 67th graduation ceremony booklet ahead of last month’s graduation over the same exams marks alteration scam.
