Primary children compete in spelling bee competition

KAMPALA-
Primary Seven pupils in schools around Kampala are set to take part in final spelling competitions which are organized by Spelling Champions East Africa Organization (SCEA).

According to managing director of SCEA Mr Anthony W. Wechuli; there was an initial competition which was conducted to get the best two pupils from each school that will compete at the grand launching of the organization in January 2015.

The competition that started on Wednesday last week at Mirembe Junior School saw two best children selected from each school selected for the finals at hotel African on January 15th which will be graced by the speaker of parliament Hon Rebecca Kadaga.

Speaking at the launch of the event at Mirembe Junior school, Ms Annette Mpuga the SCEA spokesperson thanked teachers who had prepared the pupils with good spelling skills and promised that the organization will help to impart more skills to all the deaf children.

ABOUT THE COMPETITION

SCEA is a spelling competition in which contestants are asked to spell broad selected words, usually with a varying degree of difficulty. Mr Wechuli noted that the competitions aims at providing young Ugandans

(8-12years) with the opportunity to participate in spelling competitions that will help them improve their understanding of the English language, their spelling techniques and consequence their comprehension and communication.

“These completions are designed for the purpose of allowing pupils to gain valuable experiences through the process of competition and evaluation,” said Mr Wechuli. He added: above all we intend to feature different health and peace aspects on different topics.”

The schools taking part in the competitions include, Mirembe Junior School, Ntinda School of the deaf, Kampala Junior Academy, Kitante Primary School, Greenhill Academy, Shimoni Demonstration School and Saalama School of the Blind

6. Melanie Ogwang and Keith Rwezahura from Green Hill Academy
7. Peral Namubiru and Jeremiah Mukisa from Kintante primary school
