Results of 1,300 pupils held over malpractice

Uganda National Examinations Board, (Uneb) has withheld results of 1,344 pupils from 22 examination centres over malpractices.
However, the number has reduced by 80 from 1,424 in 2013, a development Uneb attributed to “high degree of vigilance”.
Wakiso and Mayuge districts had the highest number of pupils whose results were withheld.
The examinations’ body last year deployed 8,771 scouts to oversee the two-day event.
Uneb executive secretary Mathew Bukenya applauded the scouts for the great vigilance. “The degree of vigilance was very high, however, results of 1,344 candidates have been withheld due to suspected involvement in various forms of malpractices,” Mr Bukenya said yesterday at the release of examinations in Kampala.
However, Mr Bukenya said candidates whose results were withheld will be accorded a hearing from the board’s security committee.
External assistance was recorded as the most malpractice that characterised the exercise while others like collusion, impersonation and swap of papers among the candidates, were also common.
