Sarah Kevin Namukobe is a teacher by profession but because of her love for marketing; she jungles two occupations.
“I pursued a Bachelors in Education at Ndejje University and graduated in 2015. I am a teacher at Kampala High School. Aside from teaching, I am an insurance marketer with Jubilee Insurance, a job that I first learnt of when a friend alerted me that they needed employees.
I applied because the students were on holiday at the time, little did I know that I would enjoy the benefits that would come with marketing.
It was easy adjusting at first because the holiday would come to an end without me signing any client which was so discouraging. This never stopped me because I had already established contacts and a relationship with some clients, so they kept calling whenever they needed to insure anything that would boost my morale.
Teaching and marketing are two different fields and when it comes to insurance, it becomes complex because there is a lot to learn and explain to the clients. Figuring out the best way to go about marketing is a challenge you learn to deal with while in the field.
I do not take my marketing job for granted because there is a lot of career growth it has had on me and now I am able to convince someone to buy insurance not only because it benefits me but because there is a lot of value in it.
People need to know that every job opportunity is a platform for growth and there is no reason to give up. All they need to do is awaken the sleeping talent.
I never studied marketing at any level of my education but learnt all the marketing skills in the field. I do not regret giving it a try.
I cannot quit either of my jobs because I have passion for both and will keep managing them the same way I am doing it now.”
