The Inter-Religious Council of Uganda has declared October, a month of prayer throughout the country to dedicate the electoral process to God’s hands ahead of the 2011 general polls.

In a joint statement, the Church of Uganda leader, Dr Henry Luke Orombi, Dr Cyprian Lwanga of the Catholic Kampala Archdiocese, the Mufti, Sheikh Rhamadhan Mubajje, Dr John Kakembo of the Adventist faith and Bishop Jonan Lwanga of the Orthodox faith, asked all Ugandans to converge at Kololo grounds on October 21, for the prayers.

“We call upon religious leaders throughout the country and their congregations to conduct and dedicate special prayers for 2011 general elections and to continue doing so until the time of the elections next year,” the October 14 statement read in part.

Earlier last week, Dr Badru Kiggundu, the Electoral Commission chairperson, said his team would work with the council of religious leaders to conduct the prayers.
