Man accused of murdering gays activist remanded

By Charles Kadiisa

The Mukono Grade Two Magistrate’s court has remanded a man accused murdering gays activist David Kato. Mr Enock Nsubuga, 25, allegedly killed Kato on January 27 at the activist’s home at Bukasa Village, Kyetume in Mukono District.
Mr Nsubuga was arrested last week after his uncle alerted the police of his whereabouts in Nakabago, Mukono District. The presiding magistrate, Mr Charles Kadiisi, advised the accused to apply for bail in the High Court since his court had no authority to grant bail. Mr Nsubuga said he did not intend to kill Kato, adding that he was only trying to defend himself.

“Kato wanted me to be his lover which I completely refused because I was not pleased with what he was doing to fellow men,” he said. The hearing of the case will commence February 18 in the High Court.
