South Ankole Diocese is officially getting launched today with the consecration of the pioneer bishop, the Rt.Rev Nathan Ahimbisibwe. The diocese has been curved out of Ankole and West Ankole dioceses and its headquarters are at St. Andrew’s Church of Uganda Kyamate in Ntungamo District. Rev.

Ahimbisibwe,45, was elected and pronounced bishop designate on September 29 by House of Bishops. He has been the chaplain at St. James Chapel Makerere University Business School and holds a Master of Arts Degree in Christian Education from Reformed Theological Seminary Mississippi, USA.

Christians in the area say the diocese will bring the protestant Anglicans in the district under one diocese, foster unity as well as economic and spiritual development. “We have been divided into Ankole and West Ankole yet we are under one district. It is good that we shall now belong to the same diocese,” Mr Patrick Kakunta, 68, a Christian from Nyakyera Sub-county, said on Friday.
