Accurately. The former minister supports the fight against corruption but says it must be done correctly.

Despite being forced to resign her ministerial position over accusations of abuse of office, Ms Kabakumba Masiko says she is committed to fighting corruption.

The former Minister for Presidency and Kampala Capital City Authority was accused of illegal use of equipment belonging to Uganda Broadcasting Corporation (UBC), which she denies.

The Bujenje County MP told celebrants during the 26th NRM victory celebrations in Masindi District last week that she was optimistic that she will be cleared.

“I resigned my position to give room for investigations but I will be found innocent,” she said.

The MP said even if there was need to fight against corruption, it should be done correctly.

Ms Masiko resigned her ministerial posts in December last year after MPs had begun sourcing signatures to impeach her.

The move followed a raid on Kings Fm, in Masindi Town, where she is a majority shareholder.

Early this month, Ms Masiko told her supporters at Ikoba Village, Bwijanga Sub-county that she intends to sue police and UBC for taking her equipment including a generator illegally.

While delivering President Museveni’s speech at the ceremony, the State Minister for Agriculture and Buruli County MP in Masindi, Prof. Zeribabel Nyiira, asked Ugandans to use freedom of speech ushered in by the NRM government to help it find solutions to the country’s problems especially corruption.

“I do not believe that there is any country in the world that beats Uganda in freedom of speech. Indeed this right is always abused, it would be better if that right was used constructively to get solutions for the existing problems,” Mr Nyiira said.

Investigations

The police investigated Ms Masiko over alleged misuse of a transmitter and a mast belonging to UBC from her radio. The radio subsequently went off air for about one month.

The police reportedly handed over Ms Masiko’s file to the Director of Public Prosecution after the investigations.
