Although Presidential Press Secretary Tamale Mirundi could not be reached for comment, the Special Forces Group Spokesman, Capt. Edson Kwesiga, said Mr Karegire can be helped by other offices to get his compensation because the President is engaged with many other things.
At his old age, the 68-year-old man would have been in his home looking after his cattle or tilling land to plant food. David Karegire, however, has for the last two years been moving from office to office, seeking to meet President Museveni.
“I have no transport back home; my money has been spent in trying to go to various offices yet I am not a destitute. I only want to meet President Museveni to reward me for my contribution during the 1980 NRA bush war that brought him into power,” he says.
With recommendation letters from Major Jacob Asiimwe, Fisheries minister Ruth Nankabirwa and a one Haji Ssedunga, Karegire claims he offered Shs9 million and 45 head of cattle in Buluuli through late Major Jero Bwende and others.
