The deceased Vice Chancellor of All Saints University Lango, Prof Fred Opio Ekong, has been praised for shaping the economic policy of the nation.
The minister for Northern Uganda, Ms Rebecca Amuge Otengo, described Prof Opio’s death as a big blow to the country.
“He is a nationalist who volunteered to work for All Saints University under the Anglican Church yet he is a Catholic,” Ms Amuge said.
The professor died on Tuesday after spending one month in coma following an accident in Mpigi on February 25.
Prof Opio is known for pioneering the Northern Uganda Social Action Fund (NUSAF) programme.
His burial is scheduled for Monday, April 7 at his home in Agwata, Dokolo District.
