Mr Rugunda says his friendship with Mr Mbabazi which dates back to childhood cannot be broken now.

PARLIAMENT- Newly appointed Prime Minister Ruhakana Rugunda has said he will continue to work with his predecessor, Mr Amama Mbabazi, adding the new developments will not break their decades-long relationship.

In an interview Dr Rugunda told Daily Monitor Mr Mbabazi has been a close comrade since childhood.

“We share a common history of the struggle for democracy and against dictatorship. I salute him for the enormous contribution he has made to this country and continues to make for the Movement,” he said.

Dr Rugunda was appointed Prime Minister last Friday, an elevation that surprised many.

Meanwhile, Ms Sarah Kayagi [NRM, Mnanafwa] said people should respect the decision of the appointing authority because it is only Mr Museveni who has the prerogative to select who to work with.

Rwampara County MP Vincent Kyamadidi said Dr Rugunda has the best character suited for a Prime Minister that will help him socialise easily with whoever he is to work with.
MP Markson Jacob Oboth (West Budama South) said: “We should be able to give him all the support as MPs to enable him succeed.”

Mr Gerald Karuhanga (Indep, Youth Western) said he hoped Mr Rugunda brings his character to the job, saying he “will go a long way in helping the country so that we can be able to get some service”.
