What you need to know:

Gen Otafiire says he can only support a Kadaga presidency if Mr Museveni decides to retire at a particular time.

JINJA- Justice and Constitutional Affairs minister Kahinda Otafiire has said he would support a presidential bid by Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga.
“Ms Kadaga is a good person and I can support her if she contests when President Museveni is not coming,” Maj Gen Otafiire said.

Gen Otafiire was speaking at the Budondo Sub-county headquarters in Jinja during a retreat of NRM Sub-county chairpersons from Busoga sub-region last Saturday.
The minister praised Ms Kadaga as “very good, but President Museveni is currently better.”

He said the President has more knowledge about National Resistance Movement and is better suited to bear its flag.

Gen Otafiire told NRM cadres, most of who had expressed support for a Kadaga presidency, to join the Speaker in being patient until Mr Museveni retires.

Use democratic means
The minister urged NRM leaders to always advise those who aspire to lead the country to think of ascending to power through democratic means as opposed to the use of force, “which he said was now impossible.”

“When we were coming to power, we used guns, but now it isn’t easy. Anybody who dares to do so will not lead this country because we will get back the guns and overthrow the government,” he warned.

He urged people to work hard in order to free themselves and the rest of the populace from the yoke of poverty.
