The sex workers claimed that some Police officers rape them whenever they resist arrest. “Whenever they try to arrest us and we resist, they either rape us or order us to have sex with them to be forgiven,” one of the commercial sex workers, who spoke on condition of anonymity for fear of reprisal, told Daily Monitor.
Kampala
A section of commercial sex workers in Kampala have accused the Police of forcing them into sex whenever the officers conduct operations to arrest them, Daily Monitor has learnt.
The allegations were made during a rights awareness meeting organised by Kawempe Youth Development Association on Friday.
She added; “Usually, it’s gang rape without condoms”.
But Police spokesperson Judith Nabakooba told Daily Monitor on Friday that; “I do not think a dedicated police officer can behave that way,”
She asked commercial sex workers who claim they were raped by policemen during operations to report the cases to nearby police stations. “No policeman is above the law so if they are found guilty, them we shall take them to court,” she added.
Kawempe Youth Development Association is a non government organisation which aims at providing a framework to enable the vulnerable young people to develop socio-economic and cultural skills.
