In Summary

The Primary Four dropout says she was made pregnant by a man she only knows by one name Musisi, a fuel dealer and resident of Lukaya town. She said she met Musisi in February last year.

Ms Ruth Nassuna, visibly confused, basked in the mid morning sunshine at the police station in Mbarara as she waited to be attended to by the officer in charge of family protection.
The visibly malnourished 19-year-old woman sought refuge at the police station after she was allegedly chased from home by her father last week over her pregnancy.
Ms Nassuna, who is seven months pregnant, has been staying with the father, Mr Zaverio Magembe, in Masha village, Isingiro District, told Daily Monitor on Tuesday that her father told her to go to the man who impregnated her.
“My father chased me on Sunday and when I went to stay with my grandmother who is very old, he followed me there and told me to go away,” Ms Nassuna said.

Police said efforts to make Musisi provide for Nassuna have proved futile.
“He has not denied the pregnancy but he continues to dodge his responsibility. He had promised to send money for Nasuuna’s upkeep but he is again silent and has stopped picking our (telephone) calls,” the regional officer in-charge of family protection, Ms Carolyn Kushemererwa, said.
Ms Nassuna said the man had promised to give her money to carry out an abortion which she declined.
“I just want the public to come to my rescue because this pregnancy can claim my life. Let them help me to compel the man to take responsibility. What I want is for him to take care of me. I produce for him his child and that is all,” a sobbing Nassuna said.
She also appealed to charities for help and provided her contact as 0771402383.
