Terrorism will dominate the sixth Islamic Parliamentary Union of the Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIC) scheduled for Tuesday.

The one-week conference which opened on Sunday, will also take a stand on the Israel-Palestinian question.

“There has always been demonisation of Islam and the misuse of Islam by the extremists who want to tarnish the image of the religion. This is a serious matter that keeps coming up in all the OIC conferences,” the acting chairperson of the Executive Committee of the Parliamentary Union of the OIC, Mr Hussein Kyanjo, told a news briefing in Kampala on Sunday.

“We condemn those who demonise Islam and those who use religion as an excuse to commit crime,” he added.

Mr Kyanjo (Makindye West) said the Islamic faith is linked to terrorism due to some wrong elements that are bent on tarnishing the name of Islam.

The fate of President Omar Al –Bashir of Sudan, who was indicted by the International Criminal Court (ICC) on allegations of committing war crimes and crimes against humanity in the Darfur region, will also be discussed.
Moslem countries have since protested Mr Bashir’s indictment.

President Museveni is expected to officiate at the event which brings together all MPs of the OIC member states with a view of discussing critical issues concerning their membership and promoting dialogue with special emphasis on countering western campaigns against Islamic values.

Over 300 delegates from 51 OIC member states are expected to attend the summit.
