Police in Amuru are looking for a woman who allegedly killed her co-wife after a domestic quarrel over a jerrycan.

The incident is likely to reignite debate and add ammunition to anti-polygamy activists who recently petitioned the Constitutional Court.

The incident occurred on Monday at Ladwee Village, in Anaka Sub county where the two women had lived for long in the same compound.

The 37-year-old woman was allegedly stabbed by her co-wife after a scuffle over the ownership of a 20-litre jerrycan. Police yesterday confirmed the incident.

The regional Police spokesperson for northern Uganda, Mr Johnson Kilama, said the hunt was on for the suspect who allegedly stabbed the deceased in the chest after they failed to agree on who would use the jerrycan to fetch water.

Mr Kilama said of the suspect: “She cannot escape the law, we appeal to her, wherever she is to hand herself over .”
He also asked polygamous men to buy enough domestic appliances to avoid such scenarioa. In December last year, a woman fought her co-wife in Anaka trading centre over cow dung.
Akumu’s body was taken to Lacor Hospital for a postmortem.
