Nakaseke
President Museveni currently on a tour of Nakaseke District has ordered a UPDF soldier engaged in a land wrangle with a school to negotiate with its authorities or risk his personal intervention.

The soldier, only identified as Kayambi, is said to own about a square mile of land on which Kijjumba UPE Primary School sits.

This followed a report made by the district chairman, Mr Ignatius Kiwanuka Koomu, that Capt. Kayambi had threatened to deny parents and children access to the school and had not shown signs of compensating the parents.

In response, President Museveni said the soldier should not evict the school but instead negotiate and give it at least five acres.

“The captain cannot evict the school. He should instead negotiate with the school and give it at least five acres before I make a personal intervention,” the President said at a public rally in Ngoma Sub-county on Wednesday.

The President, who was promoting the prosperity-for-all programme in the district, said the government will also secure a boarding secondary school for the people of Ngoma and the neighbouring areas to ensure that their children get better education.

Funding secured
He said the government had already secured funding to build a bridge on River Kafu because residents had expressed concern over the poor state of what exists for a crossing point.

“Most of the programmes you have requested for will be put in place but my only worry is the home income projects that will make you educate your children.”
The President, who toured progressive farmers like Mr John Kavuma who owns 120 Friesians, 150 local breeds of cattle, goats and orange gardens, said families with income-generating projects can easily get anything they need for themselves.
