The low-key celebrations to mark the 55th birthday of the Kabaka of Buganda Ronald Mwenda Mutebi have kicked of at Kibuli, a Kampala suburb.

While the celebrations have been subdued, swarms of lined up the road leading up to Kibuli mosque where the Kabaka will attend prayers to mark the day.

Accompanied by his wife Nabaggereka Sylvia Nagginda and daughter Princess Katrina Sangalyambogo, the Kabaka first visited the patients at the maternity and children’s ward at Kibuli Hospital.

The Queen who is dressed in the traditional Gomesi attire has also covered her head with a veil, in respect of the Islamic dress code.

The Kabaka and his delegation are soon expected to join other invited guests at the Kibuli Mosque for prayers.

The function has been restricted to invited guests and a few politicians have been spotted at Kibuli. Some of them include, Forum for Democratic Change Party president Col. Kiiza Besigye, the former Democratic Party President John Sebana Kizito, JEEMA’s Hussein Kyanjo and Betty Kamya of the Uganda Federal Alliance.
