Gulu
The LC1 chairman of Green Valley Sub-ward in Gulu Municipality, has called for President Museveni’s intervention over what he described as open corruption among the police in Gulu.
Mr Stephen Olanya said police officers openly ask and take bribes from people to either get a suspect released or ‘‘kill” a case. He said this has left people in a dilemma as suspects get arrested but the next day, they are released.
Call for help
“We in Gulu need your intervention before things go out of hand because police have become irreversibly corrupt asking money to destroy evidences,” Mr Olanya explained. He made the remarks while briefing the President last week at Kaunda Grounds in Gulu Municipality.
Mr Olanya cited an incidence in which a police officer with the regional CID department allegedly took a bribe of Shs150, 000 purportedly to effect arrest.
The President, who did not respond to Mr Olanya’s submission, has been tough on corrupt public officials in the recent past, after he set up a special task force to investigate corruption allegations.
