‘Missing’ man remanded over defaming pastor Makumbi

  • According to prosecution led by Happiness Ainebyona, between February and March 2017 while appearing on various local Radio and TV stations in Kampala District, Mr Mukasa uttered statements to the effect that Pastor Makumbi stole his genitals and ate them in a cannibalism ritual.
  • Mukasa, however, denies the charges.

A magistrate at Makindye Chief Magistrate's Court has remanded to Luzira Prison a man accused of defaming Bishop Patrick Makumbi, the senior pastor of Gospel Healing Centre Lweza.
Joseph Mukasa alias Kato allegedly defamed the pastor when he called him a fraudster who concocts miracles in his church.
His relatives had declared him missing two weeks ago having not been aware of his whereabouts, only to learn that he had been charged and sent to jail over defamation.

He was remanded until July 6, 2017 when hearing of his case is expected to start.

The presiding Grade One Magistrate, Mr Allan Gakyaalo also ordered that the complainant, Pastor Makumbi comes along with his witnesses.
Mukasa a resident of Kalagala in Kiboga District was on the June 5, 2017, charged with defamation of the profession of Mr Makumbi.
Mukasa, however, denies the charges.

Prosecution further states that the said statements were made with an intension of ridiculing and defaming the profession of Pastor Makumbi within the right thinking members of society generally.
Mr Mukasa’s attempts to apply for bail hit a dead rock because he did not have sureties.
