KABALE- The Secretary to the Treasury has directed government workers to register for national identity cards in the ongoing enrolment exercise or risk missing their June salaries, the Rukungiri District chief administrative officer has said.

Mr Stephen Ouma on Monday said a directive was issued by Mr Keith Muhakanizi to ensure that all civil servants participate in the exercise.

Mr Ouma revealed this on Monday during the Kigezi regional workshop on assessing the progress of the mass enrolment for national identity card in Kabale District.

Mr Ouma demanded for written guidelines from the national identity cards project secretariat for use in responding to queries from the people handling the project in the villages.

Internal Affairs minister Aronda Nyakairima said government is also targeting to the use the national ID mass enrolment exercise to get rid of ghost employees on its payroll.
