KAMPALA- All facilities of Shimoni Teachers Training College, which were lost during its relocation by government, have now been fully reinstated, officials have said.

Speaking at the handover ceremony for the primary demonstration school in Kira Municipality, Wakiso District, yesterday, Ms Rosemary Seninde, the State minister for Primary Education, said the training college has been incomplete without the demonstration school.

“We had the core PTC but we did not have a demonstration school. Shimoni Teachers Training College is now complete,” Ms Seninde said.

In 2006, government decided to shift Shimoni Demonstration School from its premises on Nile Avenue to St John Bosco PTC in Mbale District, attracting a lot of criticisim. Later, the primary school was taken to Kololo where it remains. In 2011, government acquired land in Kira Municipality where the current college was built.

According to Mr Jonathan Kamwana, the commissioner primary teacher education, President Museveni directed the ministry of Education to find a home for the college after being displaced by the hotel, which to date has failed to see the light of the day.

“The core PTC was handed over in 2013 but it did not have a demonstration school for teachers to train,” he said. He said the new facility has been built at a cost of Shs4.6 billion and it has all the facilities needed to offer modern training to teachers and will open next month.
