Head Teacher arrested over defilement

RUBANDA. A Primary school head teacher in Rubanda District has been arrested for allegedly defiling a Primary Six pupil of the same school.
The police spokesman for Kigezi region Mr Elly Maathe on Wednesday confirmed the arrest.
The 15-year-old victim on Tuesday evening told her parents after reaching home late that the head master invited her to his residence at around 4pm pretending that he wanted to send her for some items from the nearby shops. On reaching the residence, the head teacher grabbed her and defiled, after which he warned her not to say anything to anyone.

“The victim’s mother on Wednesday morning reported the matter to police at Karengyere Police Post and officers arrested the suspect from the school compound. Investigations into the matter have started and once complete, the accused person will be charged accordingly and prosecuted,” Mr Maathe said adding that teachers should always act as parents of the pupils they teach instead of defiling them.

Muko Sub-county chairman Hebert Byaruhanga said cases of teachers defiling pupils are becoming rampant in the area sighting an example of one that defiled a 14-year-old pupil at Iremera Primary School on November 8 and disappeared after learning that the police was hunting for him.
