BUIKWE- Police are holding the owner of a stone quarry that collapsed and killed two brothers in Buyiza A Village, Nyenga, Buikwe District.

Musa Sserunjogi, 16, and Jamada Butelaba, 15, were buried by the falling pit on Monday. They were pupils of  Nyenga Mixed Primary School.

Ssezibwa Regional Police Spokes Person  Ms Hellen  Butoto said the  owner of the  quarry, Mr Majidu  Giliwo  has  been  arrested  detained at Nyenga  Police Station  as investigations progress “since he was “the first person to  alert  the community  and  police  about  the  death of  brothers.”

According to Ms Butoto, when the children failed to come home on Monday evening, their aunt Ms Madina Namuganza, thought they had gone to spend the night at the home of a relative who stays in the same area.

Some residents claim that the two brothers who were on an evening walk on the fateful day, sat on one of the cliffs of the quarry as they relaxed.

Moments later, according to the unverified residents’ accounts, the cliff collapsed killing them instantly.

The bodies were taken to Jinja Hospital Mortuary for a post-mortem.
