MPIGI-  Police are holding three people who were found with counterfeit Uganda currency notes totalling to Shs7 million.

They were allegedly distributing the fake money to mobile money agents and general merchandise dealers in Lukaya, Nyendo, Kayabwe, Buwama, Mpigi, Nsangi and Kyengera on  the Kampala-Masaka road.

Mr Josephat Mbonigaba, the officer in charge of criminal investigations at Buwama Police Station identified the suspects as Sam Kiyemba, Isaac Odoki and Rahmah Nampijja, who is four-month pregnant. The suspects are residents of Wakiso District.

"We got information from some of the affected traders in Kayabwe and Lukaya town councils that these suspects were travelling in a Toyota Premio car, registration number UAK 102D. We intercepted the vehicle and arrested them on Wednesday evening," he said.

The suspects are detained at Buwama Police Station as investigations continue.

Mr Mbonigaba said police are looking for two suspects who escaped.

"They were moving in groups to different trading centres with fake notes. They could mix them with genuine money and buy items from shops," Mr Rogers Kiwanuka, a shop owner, said.
