Manafwa- Unknown men in Manafwa District raped a 12-year-old girl and strangled her to death.
Bira Mutonyi was a daughter of Mr Yona Wasige and Ms Ester Katoko of Munamba zone in Lwakhakha Town Council.

The assailants cut off her private parts and pushed a metallic pipe into her private parts.
The brutal incident took place on Monday night. The killers broke into the house where the deceased girl was staying with her 85-year-old grandmother.
Ms Diana Nandawula, the Mt Elgon Region Police spokesperson, said the girl’s body was found in a pool of blood.
She said police visited the scene and were searching for clues on the suspects. Nobody had been arrested by the time of filing this story.

Worrying situation
“Murder cases especially in Manafwa District are worrying. Police has taken it as a serious concern to embark on community policing and tracing the perpetrators who are behind these murders,” Ms Nandawula said.

Local leaders in Lwakhakha Town Council called upon the government to support them in tracing the suspects who are believed to have killed Mutonyi for ritual sacrifice.
Mr Muhammed Kisongotsi, the LC3 chairman for Lwakhakha Town Council, said various murders had rocked the district.

“Following the numerous murder cases, the local leadership have resolved they will not allow any new person in the area without a letter from LCI chairperson of their former area of residence. We have to weed out wrong elements in the area,” he said.
The RDC, Mr Henry Nalyanya, condemned the rape and murder, and promised government’s resolve to apprehend the killers.

“We are not taking these murders for granted. Many people are killed day and night by unknown assailants and this has created insecurity in the district,” Mr Malyanya said.
“ We are working hand in hand to arrest those behind the murders,” he added.
