17 prisoners injured in Fort Portal motor accident

A good Samaritan helps a prison warder who was injured in the accident.

Seventeen prisoners from Katojo Prison have Wednesday been injured in a road accident at Harubaho on the Fort Portal- Kamwenge Road.

The inmates who were being transported from Katojo Prison to Gweri, Karambi Sub County to work on a farm belonging to Mr Paul Kasende, the Director Private Sector Development and Consultancy Centre, Fort Portal branch.

Mr Richard Mugenyi, an eye witness said that Mr Kasende who was driving the pickup, Reg No. UAE 2013Y that was transporting the inmates, had parked on the roadside.

 Mr Mugenyi said moments later, a driver of a truck Reg No. UAY 699Q belonging to China Railway Seventh Group, a company constructing the Fort Portal -Kamwenge Road, rammed into the pickup, injuring the prisoners and a prison warder.

The accident victims have been taken to Fort Portal Regional Referral Hospital.
